PeaceHealth Mission and Values Award recipient – Tricia Wooden, MD

Tricia Wooden, MD, is making a difference in the lives of PeaceHealth patients and clinicians

Tricia Wooden, MD, has been leading PeaceHealth Medical Group’s Clinician Well-Being Initiative since 2019 — not just for the clinicians at PHMG’s Family Medicine Clinic at Fisher’s Landing where she treats patients — but for all PHMG clinicians.

“The well-being initiatives she coordinates and champions show her as an excellent steward of our most precious resources — our human resources,” says the Mission and Values Awards selection committee. “We also noted that in keeping her focus on the lives, work and well-being of all clinicians, she has simultaneously stewarded resources so important to our PeaceHealth Medical Group clinicians — their time and their passion to serve the Mission.”

With Dr. Wooden’s leadership, the experiences of our new clinicians as they join PeaceHealth have been improved. She led the work for a structured mentoring program, designed and implemented a standardized clinician onboarding process from day one of employment through the first year, and assembled a New Clinician Oversight team which meets monthly to evaluate processes.

Dr. Wooden implemented a nationally-recognized physician-focused behavioral health services program that includes customized well-being assessments, peer coaching, counseling, concierge services and a mobile app that became available in March 2020 — just as the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. She enlisted 10 advocates who were then trained to promote the program for clinicians.

She also created a structured Practice Experience Program that began as a pilot in January 2021 to take on projects like streamlining the patient electronic medical records to reduce the amount of time clinicians must dedicate to updating patient charts. Dr. Wooden champions educational instruction on well-being and educates leaders on behaviors associated with departmental improvements in professional satisfaction and well-being.

“Without Dr. Wooden’s passion, commitment and enthusiasm, none of this work would have been possible to dream of or to implement,” says one of Dr. Wooden’s nominators. “She is committed to making PHMG a better place to work for everyone and a better place to receive care. She is making a significant difference on behalf of over 1,100 PHMG providers!”

Dr. Wooden is the 2022 systemwide Mission and Values Award recipient for the Value of Stewardship. These awards recognize inspiring caregivers who are living PeaceHealth’s Mission and Values of Social Justice, Stewardship, Respect and Collaboration, every day.
