PeaceHealth United General ARC recognized as one of America's best rehab centers

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. – The Acute Rehabilitation Center (ARC) at PeaceHealth United General Medical Center has been recognized as one of America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers 2025 by Newsweek magazine.
The 10-bed ARC ranked No. 2 of the six facilities recognized in Washington state; it is the smallest on the list.
The award, now in its sixth year, recognized 320 top inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the 25 individual states with the highest number of inpatient rehabilitation centers. Centers in the remaining states were divided into four regions.
Each center was assigned a score based on four data pillars:
- Quality metrics published by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services;
- Accreditation data from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center;
- A national survey of industry experts; and
- Google reviews from patients
This is the fifth consecutive year the ARC has made Newsweek's list. It was named No. 4 in 2021, No. 1 in 2022, No. 5 in 2023 and No. 3 in 2024.
"This program is truly extraordinary, and I'm so proud of our team," said Chris Johnston, chief administrative officer. "To see a unit of this size, in a small rural hospital, stand alongside the very best in the country is a remarkable achievement. It’s a true testament to the skill, dedication and heart of our team—and a point of pride for our entire community."
PeaceHealth United General's 10-bed unit, which opened six years ago, is the only rehab center of its kind between Everett and the Canadian border. Patients come from Skagit, Island, Whatcom and San Juan counties to recover from stroke, traumatic brain injury, amputation, major surgery or other conditions requiring intensive inpatient rehabilitation services.
In addition to 10 private patient rooms, the ARC offers a dining area, rehab gym, an activity lounge, occupational and speech therapy treatment rooms and a model bedroom where patients can re-learn skills related to daily independent living.
