Recipe: Snickerdoodle dessert dip

Snickerdoodle dip with fruit and other items to dip

You'll never guess the basic ingredient for this lovely sweet treat.

Beans aren't just for dinner. They also serve as the basic ingredient for this flavorful sweet dip.

6-8 servings (makes about 1 ½ cup total)

Ingredients

  • 1 – 15-ounce can chickpeas (garbanzo beans) OR 1 – 15-ounce can white beans drained and rinsed
  • ¼ cup creamy nut butter of choice (almond, cashew) OR 1/2 cup raw cashews soaked
  • 2 Tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • ¼ cup pitted medjool dates
  • 1-2 Tablespoons unsweetened apple sauce (more as needed to reach desired consistency)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ - 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:

Soak raw cashews and dates in enough water to cover for at least 1 hour (longer is ok). Drain water off.

Combine all ingredients in a large food processor. Blend until very smooth. Taste and add 1/8th of tsp salt if desired.

Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve

Dipping Ideas:

  • Fruit – sliced apples, sliced pears, banana
  • Pretzels, graham crackers
  • Cinnamon pita chips or spread on cinnamon raisin bread
