Clinic caregivers step in to assist a gentleman who got turned around

A long workday was coming to a close. Kelly DeRosier and Tina Hinesley each looked forward to heading home, after co-leading a support group for breast cancer patients at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington.

As they carried supplies back to the mammography clinic, Kelly said they noticed a “gentleman who was clearly lost and disoriented.” Not only was he not clear about where he was, he was also confused about the time. “He believed it was daytime, when, in fact, it was after 9 p.m.”

Kelly, a triage nurse and breast center patient navigator, said Tina sat by the man with “a very calm and friendly presence—ensuring his safety and security until we could get assistance from hospital security and notify his family and care team.”

Tina’s 28 years of working in various capacities at PeaceHealth St. John helped her get just the right information needed to help him out.
