Take Your Brain Out to Play!

| News | Event | Community

Whether you are a stroke survivor, are recovering from a brain injury, or are just looking for a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon – PeaceHealth Southwest is offering a fun (and free) day filled with interesting activities to stimulate your brain.

The 3rd annual Take Your Brain Out to Play event is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2018 at PeaceHealth Southwest’s Health Education Center. “The event is designed to get people to engage in new, interesting activities – creating opportunities to try something they’ve never done before,” said Louise Jenkins, Stroke Program Coordinator at PeaceHealth Southwest. “Taking care of yourself is important, not just medically - but mentally, too,” said Jenkins. “People recovering from stroke or brain injury should engage in activities that stimulate their brains. But, so should everyone else! There are tremendous benefits that come from learning a new skill or making a new social connection.”

The list of activities includes (but is not limited to):

  • Tai Chi
  • Container Gardening
  • Art Station
  • Jewelry Making
  • Scrapbooking
  • Rock painting
  • Music from “The Backstrokes”

Relaxation Coach/Massage Therapist Jackie Gethner will present a workshop on techniques for self-caring, and representatives of local support agencies will share information about available resources.
