Healing through laughter, also called humor therapy, is the use of laughter and playful activities to support emotional well-being. It’s a simple way to help you cope with stress, lift your mood, and feel more relaxed, whether you’re managing a health condition, recovering from treatment, or caring for someone who is ill.

There are many ways to bring more laughter into your life.

  • Share a laugh. Watch a funny movie with friends, family, or your partner. You can also send each other funny clips, memes, or videos.
  • Be with people who make you laugh. Surround yourself with people and things that make you laugh—whoever or whatever they may be.
  • Play games. Board games, video games, and online games with friends often lead to laughs.
  • Find humor online or in media. Watch funny videos, listen to comedy podcasts, or pick up a funny book.
