Breast Program at United General Medical Center

One in eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. Whether you want to prevent, find or treat it, you can get all you need in the Breast Program at PeaceHealth United General Cancer Center. We offer complete, convenient breast care in Sedro-Woolley.

Advanced care, close to home

You’ll find outstanding care in a single location, so you don’t have to travel for diagnosis and treatment.

  • PeaceHealth United General has the only radiation treatment center in North Puget Sound accredited by the American College of Radiology. ACR is the gold standard for radiation oncology treatment.
  • Our team uses 3D mammography for breast cancer screenings. This is the best tool available to identify cancer early, when it’s most treatable.
  • If breast surgery is part of your treatment plan, our surgeons use advanced tools to remove lumps without large incisions. This allows you to recover faster and with less pain.
  • We’ll soon upgrade our linear accelerator to the latest model. This equipment precisely targets radiation to reach cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue.

Screening and prevention

Finding cancer early gives you the most options for treatment. At the Breast Program at United General Medical Center, you’ll have access to the latest screening tools. We also let you know what you can do to prevent or lower your risks.

Our team aims to make you as comfortable as possible during your mammogram.

If you’re an existing patient, we’ll also remind you when your next screening is due.

Diagnosis

Our radiologists look at images from your mammogram. If necessary, they may also do a biopsy. This involves taking a tissue sample and examining it to confirm your diagnosis.

If our team finds cancer, we work with you, your primary care provider and your family to personalize a treatment plan.

Treatment

Your care team may include:

  • Radiation oncologists. These providers use beams of energy to target cancer while sparing healthy tissue nearby and reducing side effects.
  • Medical oncologists. These providers use chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other powerful medications to treat cancer.
  • Cancer surgeons. These providers use minimally invasive techniques to remove cancer cells.

Recovery and support

Throughout your treatment, our team supports your emotional, mental and physical health. We offer:

  • Social workers and a patient navigator to coordinate appointments, transportation and financial aid.
  • Rehabilitation services to help you regain strength.
  • Nutritional plans to nourish your body.
  • Palliative care to manage symptoms and keep you comfortable.
  • Support groups for you and your loved ones.
