Conversations convey caring

Three people having a conversation

Small talk reveals a big heart for others

“He knows everyone by name.”

That’s just one aspect that impressed Andrea Zikakis as she chatted for a few minutes with fellow caregiver, Jack Estrada, in the hallway of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, Washington.

During their brief conversation, Estrada, director of imaging and environmental services, greeted by name each caregiver who crossed their path. She also noticed his caring compassion in action. He excused himself from their chat to assist a perplexed patient and family member and accompany them to their destination.

This wasn’t the first time.  Each time Zikakis has the privilege of brief, unexpected exchanges with Estrada, the same thing happens…he focuses on others and makes them feel valued, whether they were caregivers, visitors or patients.

Zikakis sees Estrada as one who truly seeks to live the PeaceHealth Mission, every time, every touch. His supervisor Cherie Martin heartily agrees.

Estrada only hopes the everyday moments of grace he seeks to live out, inspire others to do likewise. If they do, and Estrada notices, chances are high he knows them by name.
