Volunteer Roles and Opportunities

Patient Visit Volunteering

Patient Visit Volunteers share stories, enjoy conversations, read, play games or offer a quiet, presence, your time helps brighten their day, ease loneliness. 

  • Respite Volunteers  provide companionship to the patient while giving the caregiver an opportunity to step away for errands, appointments, or personal self-care. 
  • Volunteer Companion visits create meaningful moments of companionship that bring warmth and reassurance to both patients and their families. 
Hospice House Volunteer
  • Patient Care Volunteers:  Volunteers supplement the CNA’s for a 4-hour shift, once a week, to provide support for patients and their families. Duties include: Providing comfort tasks such as standby assist with commode or bathing, preparing a meal, taking patients on walks within the RHHH and/or internal garden, reading, writing letters, friendly visits, cleaning the kitchen, laundry, etc. Volunteers must obtain a Food Handler’s Card through the Clark County Public Health.
  • Reception Desk Volunteers:  Volunteers answer phones, take messages, greet and direct visitors, and other tasks as needed. This is a 1x weekly, 4-hour shift with the opportunity to also be on-call.
Vigil Volunteer / No One Dies Alone (NODA)

As a Vigil Volunteer, you will offer a comforting presence to patients in their final hours, ensuring that no one has to face the end of life alone. Your quiet companionship provides solace and dignity bringing deep reassurance to patients and comfort to families.

Office / Program Support Specialist

An Office Support Specialist volunteer provides valuable administrative support to our team, assisting with a variety of tasks that keep our programs organized and efficient. 

Bereavement Support Volunteers

Stepping Stones: Volunteers attend a specific training to co-facilitate a children's group that works with families after a death of a love one. Two of these groups are scheduled two evenings a month and require a one-year commitment. In addition, there are 10 consecutive week overflow groups implemented as needed.

Special Opportunities

Our program is ever changing. Additional volunteer contributions include:

  • Heritage Video Interviewers and Video Editors: A heritage video volunteer will preserve the history and stories of hospice patients. Volunteers videotape an interview with patients then other volunteers edit the videos for the patient's family members.
  • Virtual Reality:  VR volunteers help patients explore virtual environments like scenic locations, or relive past experiences through VR, offering comfort, engagement, and a sense of connection.
  • As a virtual reality (VR) assistant volunteer you will support individuals by providing assistance through VR technology, helping hospice patients experience virtual visits with loved ones or in exploring new environments. This can involve tasks like helping users navigate VR environments, offering technical support, or facilitating communication and social interaction within virtual spaces.
  • Energy Healing – Reiki/Therapeutic Touch: Energy healing volunteers offer gentle, non-invasive energy healing sessions to patients and/or their loved ones to promote relaxation, alleviate stress and pain, and enhance overall well-being. 
  • Musicians / Singers:  Musician and Singing volunteers share the gift of music with patients and their families, bringing comfort and joy during a challenging time. They may play instruments, sing, or create personalized music playlists. 
  • Pet Visits:  Bring joy and improve lives by Volunteering alongside your pet. Share the joy your pet brings to people in need with Pet Partners or Alliance (F.E.T.C.H.) certified pet visits.
  • We Honor Veterans:  At PeaceHealth, we honor the dedication, service and sacrifice from our veterans. With the heartfelt support of our volunteers, we organize special projects, recognition events and ongoing activities to celebrate veterans throughout our community. Together, we express our deep gratitude for their dedication and their lasting impact on all of us.
