A lifeline in hard times: The quiet power of the Helping Hands Fund

At PeaceHealth, compassion isn’t confined to the bedside. It pulses through the hallways, lingers in break rooms and lives in the quiet moments when caregivers look out for one another. It’s a culture of care that extends beyond patients — to the very people who make healing possible.

The Helping Hands Fund was born from that spirit. Created by caregivers, for caregivers, it offers timely, meaningful support when life takes an unexpected turn. Whether facing a medical crisis, the loss of a home or an unforeseen emergency, caregivers can turn to this fund for financial relief; and the reassurance that they are not alone.

In the past four years, caregivers have contributed more than $409,000, offering support to over 260 colleagues during moments of urgent need.

Take Ruth, for example — a devoted caregiver whose sudden health crisis forced her to stop working. As bills mounted and eviction loomed, she found herself overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. A coworker pointed her to the Helping Hands Fund. The support she received allowed her to stay in her home and focus on healing.

“I could finally breathe again,” Ruth said. “Knowing I wasn’t alone gave me strength.”

Last year alone, more than $130,000 was distributed to 70 caregivers. But the Helping Hands Fund is more than a financial resource — it’s a lifeline. It’s a quiet promise whispered between colleagues: We’ve got you.

And sometimes, that promise is all that stands between despair and hope.

Because of the Helping Hands Fund, caregivers like Ruth — along with so many others found more than temporary relief. They found stability. They found hope. They found a community that stood by them when it mattered most.  Your support strengthens this circle of care. Every gift to the Helping Hands Fund delivers peace of mind, dignity and the quiet but powerful message: You are not alone!
