Our on-island Emergency Room (ER) provides full-time emergent care when you need it most. Our dedicated ER reduces the need to travel off-island for emergencies.

Off-Island Transportation

While our ER reduces the need for off-island medical transport, we maintain strong, reliable partnerships with San Juan Island EMS Island Air Ambulance and Airlift Northwest in the case transportation is needed. We also provide preparatory care for those who need to be transferred off-Island, including medical diagnostics, stabilization, intubation and general assessments and interventions.

Our Team

Board-certified emergency medicine physicians lead our department and are supported by a team of nurses and emergency practitioners. In addition to our around-the-clock, highly-trained trauma team, patients requiring emergency care have access to specialists at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, in Bellingham. Our Bellingham-based specialists have the ability to view a patient’s medical images or lab results electronically, or by using video conferencing.

Safe Haven for Newborns

If you can't care for a new baby, you have options. Washington's Safe Haven law lets parents bring a healthy infant to any PeaceHealth hospital within 3 days of birth.

You can leave your newborn with any doctor, nurse or qualified staff member — no questions asked and no names required. This choice is legal and confidential.

Need help now? Call or text the Safe Haven 24/7 hotline at 1-888-510-BABY (2229). You can also visit Washington’s Safe Haven web page for support and guidance.
