A vibrant, passionate, and deeply devoted wife and mother, Carolina Mathews was a radiant woman whose light brightened the lives of everyone she met.
Building a loving home and raising her children were her proudest accomplishments. She created a space where her family could grow through the warmth of her love, home-cooked meals, boundless support, and special touch. Through her willingness to love without limit, she taught her husband and children that family is forever.
Full of loyalty, love, and pride, Caro embraced life fully, integrating her Chilean heritage into everything she did. She welcomed others with open arms, quite literally, and had a special gift of bringing people together. She loved cooking and traveling, laughing and dancing, and making every moment special for others. Her generosity of spirit and time knew no bounds; she was always ready to offer a helping hand or a sympathetic ear to anyone in need.
Caring for others was not something Caro did occasionally. It was how she lived every day. She was deeply attuned to those who were vulnerable or struggling and felt a responsibility to help whenever she could. Whether through volunteering her time, offering quiet support, or finding small but meaningful ways to ease someone else’s burden, she led with compassion. She also instilled this same value in her family, teaching them by example that caring for others is both a privilege and a responsibility.
The world is a little dimmer without her. Her life was filled with meaning, love, and joy- and that light was reflected onto every room she walked into. Carolina passed away on September 24, 2021, at the age of 48, leaving behind a large, loving family and many cherished friends.
It is in honor of that same generous spirit that her husband, Christopher, and children, Sophia and Thomas, established the Carolina Mathews Endowment. During her cancer treatment, Caro and her family witnessed the painful reality that many other cancer patients face: the crushing financial pressures that come alongside already costly medical care- parking fees, missed work, childcare, travel, and lodging- all while facing one of life's most frightening battles. Cancer does not discriminate, and these basic yet essential needs too often become unseen barriers to treatment, draining precious time, energy, and emotional strength from those who need it most.
The Carolina Mathews Endowment is dedicated to supporting local cancer patients and their families by helping to alleviate the hidden financial obstacles to care. We strive to ensure that the path to lifesaving treatment is as feasible as possible-honoring Caro's legacy by extending compassion, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Llena de lealtad, amor y orgullo, Caro abrazó la vida plenamente, integrando su herencia chilena en todo lo que hacía. Recibía a los demás con los brazos abiertos, literalmente, y tenía un don especial para reunir a las personas. Amaba cocinar y viajar, reír y bailar, y hacer que cada momento fuera especial para los demás. Su generosidad de espíritu y de tiempo no conocía límites; siempre estaba dispuesta a ofrecer una mano amiga o un oído atento a quien lo necesitara.
Cuidar de los demás no era algo que Caro hiciera de vez en cuando. Era la forma en que vivía cada día. Estaba profundamente atenta a quienes se encontraban en situaciones de vulnerabilidad o dificultad y sentía la responsabilidad de ayudar siempre que podía. Ya fuera dedicando su tiempo al voluntariado, ofreciendo apoyo silencioso o encontrando pequeñas pero significativas maneras de aliviar la carga de otros, lideraba con compasión. También inculcó este mismo valor en su familia, enseñándoles con el ejemplo que cuidar de los demás es tanto un privilegio como una responsabilidad.
El mundo es un poco más oscuro sin ella. Su vida estuvo llena de significado, amor y alegría, y esa luz se reflejaba en cada espacio al que entraba. Carolina falleció el 24 de septiembre de 2021, a los 48 años, dejando atrás una gran familia llena de amor y muchos amigos queridos.
En honor a ese mismo espíritu generoso, su esposo, Christopher, y sus hijos, Sophia y Thomas, establecieron el Fondo Carolina Mathews. Durante su tratamiento contra el cáncer, Caro y su familia fueron testigos de la dolorosa realidad que enfrentan muchos otros pacientes con cáncer: la enorme presión financiera que acompaña a una atención médica ya de por sí costosa—tarifas de estacionamiento, pérdida de ingresos por trabajo, cuidado infantil, viajes y alojamiento—todo mientras se enfrentan a una de las batallas más aterradoras de la vida. El cáncer no discrimina, y estas necesidades básicas pero esenciales con demasiada frecuencia se convierten en barreras invisibles para el tratamiento, agotando tiempo, energía y fortaleza emocional que son tan necesarias.
