Biography
Moxie Loeffler, DO, is a member of the Unified Care Behavioral Health Clinic at PeaceHealth University District.
She specializes in addiction medicine outpatient care for all types of substance use disorders, and is dual board certified in addiction medicine and internal medicine.
She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a combined internal medicine and master of public health residency program at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center and University of California Berkeley. She focused on public policy and epidemiology as they apply to health equity and environmental health.
She was a professor at Dartmouth Medical School before she moved to Oregon in 2015 to work in primary care and addiction medicine. Prior to joining PeaceHealth, she served as the Oregon Medical Director for an opioid treatment program (methadone clinic). She also serves as an addiction and internal medicine physician consultant to the Oregon Medical Board.
“In addiction medicine, one of the most important things is to understand patients’ goals, what they want their lives to be about, and to respond with skill and compassion,” Loeffler said. “Everyone is different every time they come in to see us. A physician in this field needs to see everyone’s hopes and potential clearly.”
She is studying to become a Buddhist priest and enjoys art, running, swimming and cycling. She volunteers in state government on the Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission and as the Public Policy Chair for the Oregon Society of Addiction Medicine (ORSAM). She lives with her husband and children in Eugene.
