Robert W. Cooney MD

Robert Cooney, MD, joined PeaceHealth’s Family Medicine clinic in Sedro Woolley as an internal medicine physician in 2023. Dr. Cooney’s practice interests include diabetes, heart disease and obesity, and his research focus has been on metabolic health. Dr. Cooney joined PeaceHealth most recently as a hospitalist from the Virginia Mason Franciscan inpatient team. He has previously served as a primary care physician and hospitalist in various locations along the west coast. Dr. Cooney received his medical training from Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine in Portland, OR. He completed an internship in internal medicine from the University of Nevada and completed his internal medicine residency through Legacy Health Systems. Dr. Cooney is a compassionate, conscientious and empathetic provider committed to fostering a care environment where patients understand the importance of practice versus reactive medicine. Dr. Cooney shared that he thrives on opportunities to assess challenging medical situations the drive personal-best performance. Outside of medicine, Dr. Cooney is enjoying language studies—specifically Italian, reading and stoicism.
