Pranab Dahal MD

Pranab Dahal, MD, has joined the staff of the psychiatry department and will work in the behavioral health outpatient clinic at the University District campus.

He earned his doctor of medicine from Tianjin Medical University and master’s in public health from Chulalongkorn University, and completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York.

He brings to his current role experience practicing psychiatry outside of the U.S. and working with patients with diverse backgrounds and psychiatric presentations.

His interest in psychiatry started after seeing the need for mental health care practitioners in his native Nepal due to rising mental health issues in the aftermath of Civil War. His skills and interests fit well with the discipline of psychiatry.

“I enjoy spending time with patients, getting to know them better, looking at them from a humanistic angle rather than solely as patients,” he said. “I meet them where they are at, to meet their needs, whether that’s prescribing medications or therapy.”

In addition to English, he speaks Nepali, Hindi and basic Mandarin.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, yoga and meditation. He said the natural beauty of Oregon reminded him of where he grew up in Nepal and was part of the reason he chose to come here.
