Karen MacArthur LICSW

Karen MacArthur is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) specializing in pediatric therapy. Karen comes to PeaceHealth most recently from LightHeart Psychological Associates in Redmond, WA and was providing individual and family therapy to children, families, and adults with trauma history. Karen brings over 10 years of extensive experience supporting adults, youth and families in various roles as a therapist, transition specialist, school social worker and treatment foster care settings supporting children in reaching their educational goals and engaging positive social behaviors. Karen is particularly skilled in treating children and teens with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships/attachment issues between child and caregiver, self-esteem and building emotion regulation skills. Karen shares, “I am passionate about working with children and adolescents to help them develop a strong sense of self and self-worth and to be able to have and maintain healthy connections/relationships with others.” Karen also works closely with families and caregivers to support youth development and mental health challenges. She shares, “I am also passionate about supporting parents and caregivers as part of the therapeutic process of working with kids. I believe a strong healthy attachment and relationship with caregivers provides a vital foundation for kids as they grow up and develop their sense of self and identity.” Karen has experience applying treatment modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Outside of her clinical work, Karen enjoys hiking, reading, swimming and spending time with friends and family.
