Joshua D. Shafer NP

Joshua Shafer, PMHNP, has been promoted to a nurse practitioner at the inpatient Behavioral Health Unit at University District.

He earned his master of science in nursing from Gonzaga University, specializing in psychiatric-mental health care.

Shafer has been working in the acute psychiatric inpatient unit as a registered nurse since 2012.

“My passion lies in providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals navigating mental health challenges in acute settings,” Shafer said.

His approach to care is collaborative and patient-centered with a focus on holistic, evidence-based practice that respects cultural diversity.

“I get gratification out of helping people that are underserved,” he added. “I like being that voice for them.

“Everyone deserves the best care we can offer at all times.”

When not at work, you might find Shafer reading – everything from the classics to modern novels – playing board games, or practicing woodworking, leatherwork, weaving and needlepoint.
