Biography
Herman Sequeira, MD, joined PeaceHealth in 2023 as an intensivist. His medical interests include sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, COVID-19, global health, critical care ultrasound and airway management. He practiced pulmonary critical care medicine for a major healthcare group in North Dakota before relocating to the Pacific Northwest.
“I want to help others in their time of need,” he says of why he chose to practice medicine and focuses on treating all of his patients with dignity and compassion.
Dr. Sequeira is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine. He graduated cum laude from St. Georges University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed fellowships in pulmonary medicine at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut, and in critical care medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Sequeira's research interests include global health, long COVID and accidental hypothermia, and he’s a co-principal investigator on an FDA-approved study on the role of hyperbaric oxygen in treating patients with heart complications from COVID-19. He’s traveled on medical trips to Kenya, Zimbabwe and Haiti, speaks Swahili, and also served as an assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.
In his free time, Dr. Sequeira enjoys outside activities with his family, hiking, cross-country skiing, cycling, cricket, golf and volleyball.
