Robotic Surgery Center at RiverBend
PeaceHealth is building the most advanced robotic surgery center in the region.
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend is the first hospital in the state to add a da Vinci 5 surgical robot to its suite of medical devices, building on its legacy of being a front-runner in bringing the latest medical technology to residents of Oregon and the southern Willamette Valley.
Surgical robotics have been in place since 2009 at RiverBend, which has seen providers perform more than 10,000 robotic-assisted procedures, the first hospital in Oregon to reach that milestone.
The da Vinci 5 represents the company’s most technologically advanced robot. It is the first to offer force-feedback technology, allowing surgeons to sense the push and pull forces experienced by the instrument tip, and typically requires incisions of only 1 cm to 2 cm to introduce miniaturized instruments and a high-definition 3D camera.
Surgeons at RiverBend will use the daVinci 5 to care for cancers of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, such as colon or ovarian cancer. Surgeons will also use the new robot to care for patients needing hernia repair or bariatric surgery.
“The da Vinci 5 allows our surgeons to fully use their expertise aided by the most advanced technology available,” said Chief Medical Officer Kim Ruscher, MD. “The people of Eugene/Springfield and beyond will truly benefit from RiverBend surgeons having the da Vinci 5 as they care for members of these communities.”
The da Vinci 5 is RiverBend’s fourth robot from da Vinci and fifth overall. Robotic-assisted surgery can result in significantly less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter recovery time, a faster return to normal daily activities and in many cases better clinical outcomes for patients.
The newest robot is one of many recent equipment upgrades as PeaceHealth continues to invest in providing Lane County residents with the latest in medical care.
