Building for the Future

Growing to meet our community's needs

As Bellingham and Whatcom County grow, so does PeaceHealth. We’re  investing in our community to improve access to care and services.

Construction at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center

Construction on our hospital expansion is happening now. The new West Pavilion features a new modern emergency room and a six-level building with single-patient rooms, as well as a dedicated care area for babies, women and children.

How we're growing to meet our community's healthcare needs

Here are some of the exciting new ways we’ve expanded recently or are planning to expand to meet Whatcom County’s healthcare needs:

  • Our new West Pavilion at St. Joseph Medical Center will add:
    • 120,000 sq. ft. modern, high-tech pavilion,
    • 142 patient rooms,
    • Expanded Emergency Department.
  • Women’s and children’s healthcare services:
    • Increased Pediatric Services so families receive the care they need in their own community.
    • A brand-new labor and delivery department sized for the needs of our community.
    • Space for a comprehensive neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  • Cardiovascular services are expanding into a larger, modernized space.
  • Endoscopy services are now operating in an updated space designed to enhance patient care and efficiency.
  • Orthopedics has expanded to offer more specialized care. An orthopedic rapid access clinic will open later this year.
