Here’s a checklist to help you prepare for your next doctor visit.

Over the last two years, we’ve had to change many of our daily habits, such as avoiding crowds, isolating at home, and doing all we could to stay healthy.

Unfortunately for many of us, the pandemic also meant delaying medical care.

In 2020, more than 40% of American adults reported that they had delayed necessary medical care. More than 10% delayed emergency care.

As we begin to move forward, PeaceHealth is excited to welcome patients back to complete preventive screenings and routine care.

Whether you’re seeking an annual screening that you missed, sharing a new health concern, or adjusting your care plan for a chronic illness, we are ready to help you get back on track — no matter where you are on your health journey.

Here’s a handy checklist to help you prepare for your next medical visit:

  • Schedule appointments with your providers. Make time to speak with your primary care provider and any specialists that you need to see. Appointments fill up quickly, so be sure not to wait too long.
  • Make sure your medication list is up-to-date. If your medications have changed, make a list to bring with you to your next appointment. Be sure to include the strength (e.g., 500 mg) and the dosage (e.g., one pill twice a day). If you use My PeaceHealth, you can download your list of medications. Your care team will verify during your visit all the items on the list in your record. If you’re uncertain about including an over-the-counter medication or supplement, add it to the list. Some patients bring their medications to show the doctor as an aid in the discussion. Use whatever approach you feel most comfortable using to ensure that your doctor has from the most accurate information.
  • Bring questions and concerns. Jot down any symptoms or health concerns you want to review with your provider. Take note of the basics that your provider might ask about, such as when did the symptoms start, how long or how often do you experience them, does anything make them go away and have they gotten worse over time.
  • Identify your health goals. Your provider is a great partner to help you set and achieve goals to live a healthier lifestyle. Think about SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Based) goals to discuss with your physician at your next appointment.

Give yourself credit for all that you’ve done for yourself and those around you throughout the pandemic. Now is a great time to use some of the lessons we’ve learned to stay healthy and strong—prepared for whatever comes next.

When you’re ready, schedule an appointment with a PeaceHealth provider to catch up on your preventive care.
