Andrea Arnett, MD, PhD, joined the St. Joseph Medical Center's Cancer Center in April 2022. She is a radiation oncologist whose primary practice areas are in gastrointestinal, gynecological and central nervous system malignancies, with a particular focus on brain metastases. Dr. Arnett earned a B.S. in biology with Honors from California State University Long Beach. She completed a biochemistry graduate program at the University of Washington where she went on to earn an M.D. and Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology. While completing her medical degree she also did a rotation at Bastyr University, an alternative medicine university. After a Preliminary Medicine Internship at UCSF, Fresno Department of Internal Medicine, she completed her residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, while also providing emergency medical services at rural hospitals. Before joining PeaceHealth, Dr. Arnett was an assistant professor and the Physician Director of Global Outreach and Education for the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University. She has an extensive portfolio of published articles, abstracts and oral presentations and has spent generous amounts of time teaching, mentoring and supervising students. Dr. Arnett speaks conversational Spanish and volunteers with a U.S.-based healthcare team providing long-term care to villages in El Progreso, Honduras. She has done additional international training and outreach work in Indonesia and West Africa. “I chose medicine because I wanted to be part of a profession that focused on helping others regardless of circumstance,” she shared. Beyond her professional and volunteer activities, Dr. Arnett enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, biking, yoga and painting.
