What happens at your appointment
A mammogram is basically an X-ray of your breast tissue. PeaceHealth offers 3D mammography for detailed results.
Most people find their appointments quick and manageable. Here's what happens at your visit:
- You'll undress from the waist up and put on a gown.
- Standing in front of the mammogram machine, your technologist will place your breasts on a platform, one at a time. A plastic plate will briefly apply pressure for less than a minute. While some find this uncomfortable, many are surprised by how quick it is.
- After your appointment, a specialist will review your images and send results to you and your doctor or care team.
- Getting called for a follow-up screening is common and not necessarily cause for concern. Your doctor may want to get more information.
