Congratulations to Alejandro Rey, MD, first recipient of new TouchStone Award

National Doctors Day, celebrated every March 30, is a chance to pause, recognize and honor the physicians whose skill, compassion and humanity shape the heart of our healing ministry. 

This year’s celebration at PeaceHealth St. Joseph carried special significance as we announced the first recipient of our new quarterly TouchStone Award for Exemplary Physicians and Clinicians: Alejandro Rey, MD, a hospitalist with our partners Sound Physicians.

His four nominations came from colleagues and a patient’s grateful spouse, and their words say so much:

• “He is an excellent clinician… and takes time to explain his reasoning.”
• “He exemplifies the compassion and tenderness that define our healing mission.”
• “He is the epitome of what a competent, caring advocate for his patient should be.”

Chief Medical Officer Lorna Gober, MD, presented the award at a gathering of Dr. Rey’s colleagues, family members and hospital leaders: “Dr. Rey, thank you for your kind approach, your compassionate care and your commitment to our community.”

The TouchStone Award honors physicians and clinicians who model compassion, collaboration, integrity, clear communication and mentorship.
