Sandra M. Demars MD

portrait of Sandra M. Demars MD

,

Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Sandra Demars received her medical degree from Cornell in New York and her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas. Now serving as a hospitalist at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center, Dr. Demars was most recently at the Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle - an affiliate of the University of Washington-where she did her Internal Medicine Residency and was a Clinical Instructor. As a Hospitalist, Dr. Demars specializes in the care of patients while they are in the hospital; a relatively new trend in patient care. Among the advantages of having a Hospitalist is their expertise in the complicated daily care of hospitalized patients. They are also more available most of the day to meet with family members and coordinate patient care. Dr. Demars said being a Hospitalist is a good fit for her family while her children are young, providing a more reliable schedule than many medical specialties. Ultimately, she plans to continue her career in Internal Medicine. Dr. Demars is married to an architect and furniture builder and has three children whose ages range from one-and-a-half to nine. She and her family like to bike and sail and look forward to learning more about fishing and the other outdoor activities available in Southeast.
