Megan Kunkel, MD, has joined the pediatrics staff and will practice out of the University District clinic.

She earned her doctor of medicine from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and completed the University of Colorado’s pediatric residency program and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine Fellowship.

She is a board-certified pediatrician with additional fellowship training in primary care sports medicine who is also passionate about community engagement and has experience volunteering as a team physician and at youth sports events.

Her clinical interests include pediatric musculoskeletal health, injury prevention, nutrition, immunizations, and promoting physical activity as a cornerstone of wellness.

“As a pediatrician, I believe in providing compassionate, comprehensive, and family-centered care that supports each child’s physical, emotional and developmental well-being,” she said. “I strive to build trusting relationships with families and to partner with them through every stage of their child’s growth — promoting health, preventing illness and guiding them through challenges with empathy and clinical excellence.”

With additional training in sports medicine, Dr. Kunkel brings a unique perspective to pediatric care, emphasizing the powerful role of movement and physical activity in promoting lifelong health. 

“I believe that exercise is medicine, and I incorporate this principle into my preventive care, injury management, and guidance for children and adolescents at all activity levels,” she said.

Outside of work, she enjoys the outdoors with her husband, family, and friends - hiking, skiing, paddleboarding, playing board games, reading and running, including completing a 100-mile ultramarathon.
