- Psychiatry
Katherine Wright, DO, has joined the outpatient psychiatry staff of the University District’s behavioral health clinic.
She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
She completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Connecticut, where she had the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations in a variety of outpatient practice environments, including community outpatient, correctional, Department of Veterans Affairs and intensive outpatient programs.
Her experience volunteering with a crisis hotline while she was an undergrad in college and then later while attending medical school sparked an interest in pursuing a career in mental health. Completing her rotation in psychiatry solidified her decision to stick with that discipline, with a focus on the barriers and stigma mothers with substance-use disorders face.
“I came to the realization that this is what I wanted to do,” she said.
Her philosophy of care is based on the belief that every individual deserves access to quality psychiatric care.
“I think it’s important that everyone who needs mental health treatment gets it,” she said. “Each member of the treatment team, including the patient, has an essential role and deserves to be treated with empathy and respect.”
Her hobbies include knitting and spending time with her cats: Frodo and Pippin.
