Julia Marie Farquhar, MD, has joined the staff of the outpatient behavioral health clinic at University District, specializing in psychiatry.

She earned her doctor of medicine from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Pittsburgh’s Western Psychiatric Hospital, where she also served as chief resident.

She most recently worked at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

She has specialty training in emergency psychiatry, palliative care psychiatry, obsessive-compulsive disorder, treatment of patients with autism and intellectual disabilities, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She has experience working with military veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs and in treating post-traumatic stress disorder.

She values shared decision making with patients as well as open communication with them and team members.

“I like to see a patient as a person before I see them as a patient,” she added. “I look at what influenced them and who they are.”

In her free time, she enjoys hiking and getting out into nature with her two rescue dogs, and trying new restaurants.
