Darrell Owens, DNP, specializes in adult primary care with a focus on hospice and palliative medicine at PeaceHealth Whatcom Hospice.

He brings over 25 years of experience supporting patients with serious illness and those at end of life. Darrell earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds master’s degrees in healthcare administration, palliative care nursing, and thanatology—the study of death and dying.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Academy of Grief Counseling, and the Association for Death Education and Counseling. He is a clinical professor emeritus at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he taught for 22 years. He also trained at Harvard Medical School as a palliative care scholar and is a U.S. Navy veteran.

Darrell regularly participates in research and shares his knowledge to help improve care for people at the end of life.
