Alex Anderson, DO, has joined the family practice team at PeaceHealth’s Barger Clinic.

He earned his doctor of medicine from Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest, with a focus on lifestyle medicine, something he plans to carry forward into his current role. He completed his residency in family medicine at Middlesex Health in Connecticut.

He also volunteered with AmeriCorps over three years, including leading more than 2,000 patients through health fairs, screenings and education.

He was drawn to medicine after watching his parents’ careers in healthcare and a desire to help those around him.

“I wanted to combine my day-to-day work with something I feel benefits my community,” he said.

He describes his philosophy of care as a collaborative one, and during his residency organized and led group visits for patients to emphasize discussion, interaction and teaching of lifestyle habits that can affect chronic diseases.

“My goal is to leave patients empowered and confident about addressing their health,” Anderson said. “I emphasize overall well-being, including lifestyle choices, prevention and mental health.

“I’m a big proponent on seeing people consistently,” he added. “I want to develop that relationship and talk about what we can do for their health, what they want to address and what they want to change.”

When not at work, Anderson likes to “entertain good company with bad jokes,” enjoy last-minute vacations and read. He is also an avid runner and is glad to be in TrackTown USA. He also likes to cook and is learning how to cook Indian food.
