Choosing a new diet? Check out this webinar

"Update Your Plate: How to Choose a Healthy Eating Plan," will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16

January 10, 2019

VANCOUVER, Wash. – It’s the new year. Are you ready to make some changes for better health?

With so much information out there and so many different diets to choose from, it can be difficult to cut through the hype. An upcoming online class will offer guidance to those who are navigating their personal health journey.

PeaceHealth is presenting the webinar “Update Your Plate: How to Choose a Healthy Eating Plan,” from noon to 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Jendy Newman, a PeaceHealth registered dietitian, will be the featured presenter. She will offer insight on:

  • The five top-rated diets and how they work.
  • How to match your eating plan to short- and long-term health goals.
  • Why some diets might be off the table.
  • Why being healthy isn’t just about the food.

“There are so many different diet options out there, it can be overwhelming,” Newman said. “We hope the webinar will provide participants with valuable information they can use on their quest to have a healthier, more manageable eating style.”

Making smart choices when it comes to our health and wellness matters. Healthy habits, including not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, getting 30 minutes of exercise daily and eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains and less meat, could wipe out:

  • 90 percent of diabetes risk;
  • 80 percent of heart attack risk
  • 50 percent of stroke risk;
  • And 33 percent of cancer risk.

“Those four keys to healthier living can have such a strong impact on us as individuals, and as a population,” Newman explained. “The new year is a great time to start adopting some of these healthy habits. You can’t outrun a poor diet with exercise; all of the elements matter.”
