Special Nurses in the Emergency Room

PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center emergency room (ER) has special nurses trained to take care of people after sexual violence.

These specially trained
nurses provide gentle and compassionate medical care to people who experience sexual violence. In the private, non-judgmental environment of the hospital, these special nurses may obtain medical evidence. That is why it is important to come into the ER as soon as possible after the event.

Before you come to the ER:

  • Try not to change clothes.
  • Try not to shower or bathe.
  • Try to not eat or drink.
  • Try to not use the toilet, if possible.
  • Call 911 if you want to report the event to law enforcement or if you need a ride to the ER.
It is okay to bring a friend or relative with you. Please bring a full set of clean clothing, if you can.

Our ER nurses work with other healthcare providers, social services, and the justice system to help you in every way they can. Most of all, our nurses provide you with emotional support and encouragement.
