Columbia Network Leadership Changes

Josiah (Sy) Johnson, CEO and Chief Mission Officer at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview, will transition this September to the newly-created role of Chief Operating Officer for the PeaceHealth Columbia Network.  As Chief Operating Officer Johnson will assume the duties of Chief Administrative Officer at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, along with overseeing the Chief Administrative Officer at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview, and overseeing the Chief Executive Officer at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco, WA. Johnson will report directly to PeaceHealth Columbia Network CEO Joe Kortum.

In his new role Johnson will be focused on delivering top quality health care to a large portion of southwest Washington and northwest Oregon.  Johnson says he looks forward to the challenge of increasing the safety, quality, and affordability of care, while seeking innovative ways to improve efficiency.
“Health care is changing across the nation, and we have to be out in front of that change,” said Johnson. “All health care systems are learning to do more with less. Our successes at PeaceHealth St. John have come from the heads, hearts, and hands of our caregivers.  Together we have done outstanding work increasing quality and patient satisfaction while finding new efficiencies in the process. As we move forward our collective dedication to sustain the mission of our Sisters by serving the needs of our communities has been and will continue to be my inspiration.  Working together, we will continue this ministry into the future with great commitment, passion, creativity, and an indomitable spirit.”
Johnson will take over for PeaceHealth Southwest’s retiring Chief Administrative Officer Rainy Atkins, who will leave PeaceHealth September 6th to spend more time with her family.
“I am profoundly humbled by this opportunity to continue to serve our mission in these communities.” said Johnson. “I’ve worked closely with PeaceHealth Southwest’s Board and Executive Leadership over the past few years, and have experienced the passion for excellence and dedication to great patient care at PeaceHealth Southwest firsthand.  The dedication of our caregivers to our mission will continue to be the foundation of our success.”
Johnson will work closely with PeaceHealth St. John’s Governing Board leadership to identify the right individual to assume the new role of Chief Administrative Officer at PeaceHealth St. John. “PeaceHealth St. John is an integral part of our community, and when we find the right person, I will work closely with them to navigate the changes in this dynamic industry. I’m excited for our future.”
