Are you struggling with Lymphedema?

This is a condition that causes swelling, usually of one or more extremities, in which water and waste products from the body accumulate, causing the affected area to feel thick, firm and tender.

In its more severe stages, it causes cellulitis, an infection of the skin and underlying tissues. It can be caused by a number of medical conditions, which include a history of varicose veins, obesity and/or cancer.

Sometimes it occurs after surgery on the leg, causing higher than usual pain and fibrosis, which significantly obstructs the patient in regaining range of motion. Currently there is no cure for lymphedema, but it can be successfully managed.

The lymphedema clinic utilizes certified lymphedema therapists to treat and manage lymphedema through compression wrapping, manual lymph drainage, exercise and education. We work closely with area surgeons and oncologists to assist patients who are experiencing lymphedema.

Treatment reduces limb size, improves ease of movement of the affected limb and optimizes limb health. Talk to your provider today to see if a Lymphedema treatment program is right for you.
