PeaceHealth Southwest to Close Medical Library

PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center will permanently close its Medical Library facility at the Medical Center Campus at 400 NE Mother Joseph Place in Vancouver, effective Friday, September 27, 2013. The medical center library housed two collections, one for medical professionals and the other focused on consumer-health information for the public.

All existing online medical-professional journal resources supported by PeaceHealth Southwest that can be transferred will be moved to the PeaceHealth St. John Library in Longview and should be available to users at that new location through the end of the calendar year. In addition, community physicians practicing at PeaceHealth Southwest will continue to have access to the UpToDate® online clinical decision tool through the hospital’s intranet.

Providers and other clinicians needing support with medical information searches are encouraged to contact the Medical Library at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center. Requests may be made through Michael Graham, MFA, MLS, Medical Librarian and CME Coordinator at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center, 1615 Delaware Street, Longview, WA, 98632 or by phone at 360-414-7932 or fax at 360-414-7463 or email at

With the closure of the PHSW Medical Center library branch, the existing drop-off return box serving Fort Vancouver Regional Library District (FVRL) patrons will no longer be available for the public after Friday, September 27, 2013.

FVRL patrons can return borrowed items to any of the district’s 16 service locations, which include The Mall Library Connection at Westfield Vancouver shopping mall, and Cascade Park Community Library at 600 NE 136th Ave.

FVRL staff will be processing available consumer-health items previously owned by the medical center for possible inclusion in the public-library collection. Patrons with questions about available materials should contact FVRL in person at any library, by phone to 360-906-5106, or via contact forms available at
