Courageous Kids is a grief support program for youth ages 6-17 and their caregivers. Adults may sometimes try to protect children from the facts of death, believing that they are too young to understand or will become too upset. However, we know that children who don’t grieve the death of someone significant in their lives can develop physical and emotional problems throughout their lives.
Courageous Kids believes:
- Grief is the normal response to the death of a loved one.
- Children grieve as intensely as adults, but in different ways.
- It is important for the healthy development of a child to grieve a significant loss.
- Healing from a painful loss is possible with support and acceptance.
- Children need support that is appropriate to their developmental stage.
Courageous Kids operates solely on grants and donations. Participation is free of charge. View the Courageous Kids website for information on support groups and other activities, or visit us on Facebook.
Courageous Kids Camp
Aug. 3-6, 2015
The Courageous Kids Camp is a unique 4-day annual event providing an opportunity for children and teens who have experienced a death in their families. The residential summer camp accommodates about 40 young people (ages 6 to 18) with a ratio of almost one volunteer for each camper. It is located at the beautiful Kiwanis Sky Camp on the Fall Creek Reservoir, Lane County, Oregon.
Professionals provide therapeutic activities in art, music, sand play, story telling, drama and adventure group challenges in addition to the swimming, fun and play.
The Elementary, Middle and High School age groups each have separate programs and activities.
There is no fee for camp. We are supported by donations. Any contribution toward the cost of $250 per child is greatly appreciated.
Registration and intakes start in May. Participants are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
Call 541-242-8693 to register.
