What is CenteringPregnancy?

Centering Pregnancy, pregnant groupExpecting mothers carry a wide range of emotions. Confusion. Uncertainty. Worry. Joy. Strength.

Many moms-to-be long for the benefits of community along with focused, personal attention to help them work through their emotional and physical needs. They want safe places where they can listen and share in order to empower their journey toward motherhood.

CenteringPregnancy is an integrative model of care that includes health assessment, education, and support.

In Centering programs, as many as 12 women at similar stages of pregnancy meet periodically as a group, where they learn about care, take part in facilitated discussions, and build a support network. Within these sessions, the practitioner guides conversations and activities, and completes standard physical health assessments. Centering groups meet throughout pregnancy and into early postpartum.

How We Are Different?

The CenteringPregnancy program at PeaceHealth Medical Group is a vital part of the collaborative care model that mothers-to-be experience when they choose us to support their journey through pregnancy and into motherhood.

Specifically, the Centering program moves prenatal care out of the examination room and into a group setting, combining health assessment, interactive learning and community building to improve quality of care and birth outcomes.

CenteringPregnancy Appointments Include:

  • Initial private health screening.
  • Prenatal check-ups.
  • Weight and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Consistent appointments with the same provider.
  • Important information and resources for you and your baby.
  • Childbirth and breastfeeding education.
  • Education about child development and family issues.

The Support of a Small Community

CenteringPregnancy is a place where women can share and learn from one another. Research shows that women who are part of CenteringPregnancy groups are happier with their care and have healthier babies. CenteringPregnancy provides a community for women to help one another during their pregnancy and as they raise their children.
