PeaceHealth Medical Group Leader Named ‘Physician Executive of the Year’
Peter Valenzuela, MD, MBA, medical director for PeaceHealth Medical group (PHMG) has been named 2012 Physician Executive of the Year by Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and its standard-setting division, the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE.)
According to the MGMA-ACMPE, the designation means that Dr. Valenzuela represents the highest ideals of the profession of medical practice management. The award honors a physician executive in a medical group practice who has exhibited outstanding leadership to achieve exceptional medical group performance in the delivery of healthcare in his or her practice and community through personal example and collaborative team management
At PHMG, Dr. Valenzuela has been instrumental in helping reduce costs and improve quality of care for PHMG patients. He has worked with his leadership team and all medical group caregivers to address workflow redundancies, enhance access in the primary care clinics, and improve the revenue cycle. In addition, last year Dr. Valenzuela was named by Governor Christine Gregoire to the Robert Bree Collaborative, the state’s inaugural public/private partnership to identify evidence-based strategies to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare in Washington state.

Dr. Valenzuela has a B.A. in Biology from the University of Texas (UT) in Austin, graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed his family medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He earned his Physician’s Executive MBA from Auburn University. He holds a Greenbelt in Six Sigma with a focus on health care.
