Grateful Patient Gift

St. Joseph Simpson/Scott Family Endowment for Nursing Education

Personal health issues required multiple stays in different hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes for the late Robert Simpson. Through his inpatient stays in various health care facilities, he was always impressed with the exceptional nursing care he received at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

“He was struck by the number of St. Joseph nurses who worked full-time and went to college to further their education,” explained his daughter Dr. Carolyn Scott. “My father wanted to show his gratitude for their special care by supporting local nurses as they pursue advanced degrees.”

In 2015, Robert Simpson and his daughter Dr. Carolyn Scott created the Simpson-Scott Family Endowment to help assist PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and Whatcom Hospice registered nurses pursuing advanced degrees. Simpson’s generous nursing scholarship endowment helps support the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation’s Academic Progression in Nursing Scholarship.  This program raises funds for nurses to complete their Bachelor of Nursing Science degrees at Western Washington University.

Foundation donors like Robert Simpson and Dr. Carolyn Scott are significantly helping improve patient care by supporting advanced degrees for local nurses—a dream which was previously unattainable for many due to the financial burden of tuition.
