RN-BSN Program: Nursing Care Transformation

Higher Education For Healthier Outcomes

Nurses are vital to the successful transformation of our country’s health care system. Today they are called upon to cultivate and lead collaborative initiatives aimed at improving the quality, safety and efficiency of care.

Our nurses need higher levels of advanced education to meet these health care needs now and into the future.

Patient outcomes significantly improve in care settings with a higher number of nurses who hold Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees. Current studies show that patients experience lower rates of readmission, pressure ulcers, blood clots, congestive heart failure and shorter lengths of stay in settings where a higher percentage of nurses have BSN degrees.

What It Will Take To Support Our Nurses

PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation is raising scholarship funds for 35 nurses each year.

Each nurse recipient will receive $10,000 in tuition reimbursement to complete the BSN program at Western Washington University. The total cost each year to fund this scholarship program is $350,000.

“The largest obstacle to completing a BSN degree for most nurses is the financial commitment for tuition and other degree-related expenses.”

- Kelley Gregory 2014 BSN graduate & PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Nurse .
