  • Bring a mask: For everyone's safety, masks are required in all PeaceHealth facilities.
  • Entrance screening: Upon arrival, everyone will be screened for symptoms. Anyone with an elevated temperature will be connected with appropriate care.

Curriculum Highlights

The Fellowship will provide a broad range of training experiences that will equip graduates to excel in many follow-on jobs—scholastic, primary care, orthopedic, academic, etc.

  • Primary Care Sports Medicine clinics 4 half-days a week, mostly at FMSW with the Program Director, and occasionally at other locations
  • Orthopedic and Physiatry clinic 2 half-days a week with board-certified Sports Medicine surgeons and physiatrists at Rebound Orthopedics and Neurosurgery.
  • Primary Care clinic at FMSW 2 half-days a week seeing continuity and acute care patients. 
  • Didactic sessions and/or sports ultrasound training 1 half-day a week at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Sports Medicine Fellowship Clinic in Portland, OR with OHSU fellows and faculty.
  • Participation in orthopedic surgeries, physical therapy clinic, casting and splinting clinic, and exercise physiology laboratory
  • Regular participation in athletic training room clinic and game medical coverage for Division I collegiate athletes at University of Portland, and for 4A football athletes at Skyview High School.
  • Planning and medical care for mass participation sporting events including the Pacific Coast Wrestling Tournament and the Portland Shamrock half-marathon.
  • Participation in the annual OHSU/AMSSM Regional Sports Ultrasound courses, which are directed by the Vancouver and OHSU Fellowship Directors
  • Elective time at Mount Hood Ski Clinic within commuting distance from home

Family Medicine of Southwest Washington (FMSW), Vancouver, WA

 

 

This 45-provider primary care clinic is a Certified Medical Home and is part of the PeaceHealth Columbia Network.It boasts a strong residency program and numerous referral clinics within the building: sports medicine, physical therapy, urgent care, behavioral health, obstetrics/gynecology, endocrinology, minor surgery, HIV management, and osteopathic manipulation treatment.

 

 

 

Rebound Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Clinic, Vancouver, WA

This highly-respected group of over 60 clinicians at 5 locations around Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR provides a wide spectrum of services including orthopedic sports medicine, hand/hip/elbow/shoulder/ankle/foot surgery, brain and spine neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, joint replacement, physical therapy, hand therapy, and community athletic training. Their clinicians provide Team Physician services to the Portland Trailblazers basketball, Portland Winterhawks hockey, Clark College, Portland State University, Concordia University, and the USA Skiing and Snowboarding teams. University of Portland, Portland, OR

Set atop a bluff overlooking the Willamette River in northwestern Portland--only 15 minutes away from FMSW—is the beautiful campus of U.P. that hosts a robust Division 1 athletic program. Fellows assist team physicians and athletic trainers throughout the academic year as they care for athletes and provide medical coverage during a wide array of sporting events. http://portlandpilots.com/

Skyview High School, Vancouver, WA

Located 10 minutes from FMSW in western Vancouver, Skyview is the home of the competitive 4A Storm Football program. Fellows assist the athletic trainer caring for football athletes and provide game coverage in the fall. http://skyviewathletics.weebly.com/

 

Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR

Fellows spend one half-day a week doing ultrasound training and didactic discussions in small-group format with sports medicine fellows from OHSU at their Gabriel Park Clinic location in Portland only 25 minutes from FMSW. Fresh-tissue cadaver ultrasound-guided injection training takes place at the state-of-the-art VirtuOHSU Simulation and Surgical Training Center. Fellows learn from several experienced faculty from both the Southwest Washington fellowship and the OHSU fellowship.
