Family Medicine of Southwest Washington Residency
Committed to Innovation and Quality in Residency Education & Patient Care
Family Medicine of Southwest Washington (FMSW) is an unopposed, community-based, University of Washington School of Medicine-affiliated residency program located in Vancouver, Washington. It is a part of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network and sponsored by PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
The three year family medicine residency program receives approximately 800 applications per year for eight PGY-1 positions. The program offers a comprehensive clinical education, the opportunity to gain hands on experience and direct mentorship from an exceptional core faculty, international rotation opportunities, and quick access to the rich culture of Portland, Oregon and limitless recreation in the Cascade Mountain Range.
Resident Physicians receive broad spectrum training that includes obstetrics, leadership skills and commitment to care for the underserved of the community. FMSW guides residents to "find their voice" as providers, as well as individuals, and members of their families and communities. The ultimate goal of the program is to train superior Family Physicians, as judged by successful certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.
The 25 faculty members are fully dedicated to the resident program and include 16 Family Physicians, an Internist/Endocrinologist, a PhD Behavioral Scientist, a sports medicine specialist, two PharmD Pharmacists and four Physician Assistants.
FMSW recognizes the demanding nature of life in residency. The program balances rigor with a focus on allowing residents the opportunity for personal reflection, relaxation and rejuvenation.
