Biography

Dr. Joseph Chang received his medical degree (MD) and Master of Public Health (MPH) from Boston University in 2005. He completed both his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Chang is a seasoned provider and has previously been in private practice in Washington state, and then served as Associate Chief of Gastroenterology in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, where he was also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine. His research has led to primary authorship of numerous original articles published in prestigious journals such as the American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Chang’s care is based on the principle: “The best interest of the patient is the only interest of concern” (Dr. William J. Mayo). He is committed to providing exceptional care with the highest level of quality and compassion. He is a general gastroenterologist and his interests include the entire spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. Procedures Dr. Chang performs include colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (or upper endoscopy), esophageal pH studies, and video capsule endoscopy.

Born in Taiwan, Dr. Chang first immigrated at a very young age to Hawaii and then largely grew up in Southern California. Prior to medical school, Dr. Chang proudly enlisted and served in the United States Army. He and his wife enjoy traveling, hiking, and cooking together.
