We welcomed Jeffrey Schachter, MD, to the PeaceHealth Medical Group Neurology team of providers in 2020. He comes to PeaceHealth from Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical Centre in New York, New York, where he recently completed his neuromuscular fellowship. He has a special interest in diseases of the motor neuron, inherited and acquired diseases of the muscle and nerve, abnormal neuromuscular junction transmission and electrodiagnostic testing.
Dr. Schachter has a high degree of technical knowledge and skills but also remains open, approachable and trustworthy to his patients. “My philosophy is to treat patients, not their disease. By that, I mean that each patient requires the framework of evidence and experience for a particular disease that is tailored to them. I work in partnership with my patients,” he said.
Throughout his studies, Dr. Schachter has contributed to the clinical research of neurology with a focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and primary lateral sclerosis – diseases of the nerve cells that lead to muscle weakness.
“My goal for patients is to maximize their functioning and quality of life. I work to empower patients in the management of their disease," he said.
When outside of the clinic, he enjoys exercising, cycling, climbing and reading.
