We welcomed Heather Hawk, ARNP, to the PeaceHealth Medical Group Gastroenterology team of providers in 2019. Heather previously cared for patients as a nurse practitioner in a primary care clinic in Humboldt County, California. She has clinical experience in a variety of settings, including adult medicine, cardiology, nephrology, colorectal surgery and heart failure. She found her niche in gastroenterology. Heather enjoys the diversity of different disorders she sees in the clinic. She is particularly interested in functional bowel disorders and how they are influenced by a person’s lifestyle behaviors, diet and mental health. A memorable volunteer experience for Heather was when she served with Little by Little Mountain Top Ministries in Gramothe, Haiti, to help alleviate suffering caused from simple medical conditions—such as infections, intestinal worms and skin infestations. She also taught individuals how to prevent re-infestation of conditions and practices to promote general hygiene. “I strive to offer compassionate, patient-centered care, in addition to practicing evidence-based care. My goal is to work as a partner with patients to improve health outcomes and their overall quality of life,” she said. Outside of the clinic, Heather enjoys fiber and textile crafts, completing projects around the house and spending time outdoors with her fox terrier mix: Cash.
