Brant L. Cooper MD

,

As a young man Brant Cooper, M.D., was fascinated by anatomy and biology, so medical school was a natural choice. But first he earned a bachelor’s degree in English—-just to keep himself balanced and to enhance his communication skills. Deliberate choices, made with care and with the simple goal of better serving patients, help to characterize the Bethel neighborhood’s full-time obstetrician-gynecologist. Why OB/Gyn? It allows him to be “a true general practitioner,” says Dr. Cooper, doing everything from delivering babies to performing surgery. And he finds treating women to be particularly rewarding. “Women tend to care about their health,” he says. “It’s a collaborative effort.” Raised in Arizona, Dr. Cooper and his wife chose Eugene in part because of the community’s “air of tolerance” and diverse population—-a diversity reflected in the wide range of patients he serves. He’s active in his church and in his children’s schools. And he still reads a lot, though these days it’s usually to his four kids as they nod off at night.
