Andrew S. Joel Chandranesan MD

We welcomed Andrew Stevenson Joel Chandranesan, MD, to the PeaceHealth Medical Group Infectious Disease team of providers in 2019. Dr. Joel Chandranesan comes to PeaceHealth from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was the associate program director of infectious disease fellowship. In this capacity, he mentored and trained medical students, residents and fellows during their infectious disease rotations in a large tertiary care university hospital. He was also involved in taking care of a large cohort of HIV patients in the Ryan White Clinic. Dr. Joel Chandranesan has special medical interests in healthcare-associated infections, infections in immune compromised hosts like patients with cancer or HIV/AIDS, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship. Dr. Joel Chandranesan has an extensive research base that has included publications, book chapters and conference presentations on topics including: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in clinical diagnostics, leprosy in northwest Louisiana, blood stream infections in sickle cell patient populations, West Nile virus epidemiology in Louisiana and utility of bone marrow biopsy in patients with AIDS. “I strive to give the best care to patients based on current evidence-based medicine. I treat them exactly how I’d want myself and my family to be treated—with respect and compassion,” he said. Dr. Joel Chandranesan speaks Tamil. He looks forward to exploring all the Pacific Northwest has to offer, as he enjoys hiking, backpacking, landscape photography, and playing tennis and soccer.
