Biography
Alex Nielson, MD, is a Pacific Northwest native who grew up in Oregon. After high school he joined the Navy as a corpsman, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. He went on to get his undergraduate degree in general biology from the University of Maryland. He eventually returned to the Northwest to attend medical school at Oregon Health & Sciences University. He chose to be a family medicine doctor because he has always been drawn to helping others and this allows him to meet new people and use his critical thinking skills.
Dr. Nielson loves spending time with his family - his wife, daughter and dog - when not at work. He also loves to cheer on the Portland Winterhawks and spend time outdoors either fishing or kayaking. Had he not chosen medicine, he likely would have been a professional rafting guide!
