Beth O'Brien named chief operating officer for PeaceHealth
Mary Elizabeth (Beth) O’Brien, RN, MBA, has been named chief operating officer for PeaceHealth. O’Brien will be responsible for all operations throughout the system, including 10 hospitals, an 800-member multi-specialty group practice and a comprehensive laboratory.
“We are blessed to have an individual with Beth’s gifts and talents join us at PeaceHealth,” said Sister Andrea Nenzel, chair of the PeaceHealth Board. “She brings a depth of leadership that will help us navigate quickly and surely in these transformative times.”
O’Brien is currently senior vice president and group executive officer for Catholic Health Initiatives, with direct oversight for CHI hospitals in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Pennsylvania and Maryland. She also serves as Integration Leader for CHI, where she has worked since 2007. Prior to joining CHI, O’Brien served as managing director for Navigant Consulting, where she focused on physician alignment, strategy, clinical performance and financial improvement.
Her experience also includes chief executive and senior leadership positions with Baptist Health System, Birmingham, Ala.; Cigna Healthcare, Hartford, Conn.; Catholic HealthCare West (now Dignity Health); Providence Health System, and other health systems across the country. In 2004, O’Brien was one of only 28 women in the country named to Modern Healthcare magazine’s “100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare.”
“Joining PeaceHealth is a great opportunity to bring together all the work I’ve done across my career,” said O'Brien. “There is hard work to do, but also so many possibilities as we continue to advance care for our communities."
The position of chief operating officer is newly created at PeaceHealth. O’Brien and President and Chief Mission Officer Alan Yordy will both report to the Board of Directors. Yordy will focus on external affairs.
“I look forward to partnering with Beth as she brings her experience in operational excellence to our ministry,” said Yordy.
