Propoxyphene

Drug Information

Caution: The US Food and Drug Administration is removing this product from the US market. The FDA recommends that if you currently have a prescription for this medicine you should not make the decision to stop or continue treatment alone but should immediately speak to your doctor.

Propoxyphene is a narcotic analgesic used to relieve mild to moderate pain. Propoxyphene is available alone and in combination with other drugs.

Fiber

Propoxyphene may cause gastrointestinal (GI) upset. Propoxyphene-containing products may be taken with food to reduce or prevent GI upset.¹ A common side effect of narcotic analgesics is constipation.² Increasing dietary fiber (especially vegetables and whole-grain foods) and water intake can ease constipation.
